  • What is the Tea Ceremony?

The Japanese tea ceremony is a traditional cultural practice in which matcha (powdered green tea) is carefully prepared and served to guests.
Through this refined series of movements, it cultivates mindfulness, respect for others, and an appreciation of beauty.
It is not simply about drinking tea, but rather a comprehensive art form that harmonizes etiquette, aesthetics, and spirituality.
The philosophy of the tea ceremony was systematized by Sen no Rikyu (1522–1591), and is based on four essential principles:
•Wa (Harmony) – creating balance and unity
•Kei (Respect) – showing consideration and respect for others
•Sei (Purity) – maintaining cleanliness and clarity of mind
•Jaku (Tranquility) – achieving inner calm and serenity
These four principles form the core of the tea ceremony.

About This Workshop

  • ・Tea Ceremony Lecture (15–20 minutes)
    ・Tea Ceremony Experience (60 minutes)
・Art Appreciation (Ceramics, Calligraphy, etc.) (10 minutes)

This workshop is conducted in a table-style setting rather than on tatami, making it accessible and comfortable for all participants.
Unlike typical tea ceremony experiences that focus only on learning the procedures of drinking tea, this program offers a deeper understanding of the philosophy behind the practice.
    Participants will:
•Learn the cultural and historical background through guided explanations and materials
•Gain deeper insight into the meaning and spirit of the tea ceremony
•Enjoy matcha prepared by a tea master
    •Taste seasonal Japanese sweets
This is a comprehensive cultural experience that combines both knowledge and practice.

Several hundred years ago, there were no museums, so feudal lords would gather to show and appreciate each other’s treasured masterpieces. At that time, tea utensils were considered a symbol of status. At the end of this workshop, we will also have a session to appreciate ceramics and calligraphy. You can purchase it.

    • The Beauty of the Tea Ceremony

•1. The Ultimate Expression of Hospitality
A culture devoted to creating a thoughtful and meaningful experience for each guest.
      •2. Cherishing the Present Moment
Inspired by the concept of Ichigo Ichie (一期一会), meaning “a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.”
      •3. A Refined Aesthetic
From tea bowls and seasonal flowers to traditional sweets and the tea setting, every element embodies a sense of quiet and understated beauty.
